What tests are done before liposuction? Are there cases where it is difficult to have the procedure?

Pretty Body and Line Clinic

At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, blood tests before surgery check anemia levels, inflammation levels and whether there is a bleeding disorder. We have blood testing equipment in the clinic, so you can be tested on the day of surgery and have the operation right afterward.

Why are pre-op tests done?

Liposuction is an operation that requires anesthesia, so before the surgery itself we need to see whether your body can tolerate anesthesia. At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, the director, who is a board-certified anesthesiologist, makes the anesthesia plan, and the attending surgeon follows your progress from the pre-op tests through recovery and discharge.

What you need to tell us in the consultation

Medications you are taking, previous surgeries, chronic conditions, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This information changes both whether anesthesia is possible and the surgical plan.

Medications to stop in advance are vitamin E, aspirin-type medications, and herbal medicines whose ingredients cannot be known precisely. If you are taking any medication, you need to ask your attending surgeon before surgery and confirm whether to stop it.

Preparing for the day of surgery

The standard fast before surgery is 8 hours, and you must not consume anything, including water, gum and candy.

It varies by area, but the operation usually takes 1–2 hours, and recovery takes about 2 hours as well. At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, a staff member in charge of recovery is stationed in the recovery room and looks after you until discharge, so you do not need to bring a companion. You cannot drive yourself on the day of surgery.

Conditions that need to be discussed before surgery

If you have no underlying conditions, age and weight are not a major issue. If you have asthma, liver disease, anemia, thyroid disease or a bleeding disorder, you must discuss it with your attending surgeon before surgery. It is difficult to have the procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

When liposuction does not solve the problem

Apart from test results, there are also cases where liposuction is not the answer. Visceral fat is not a target for liposuction, and when stretched skin rather than fat is the cause, suction alone will not resolve it. At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, we do not recommend areas that are not necessary, and if you are in this situation, we will tell you during the consultation.
