Every patient has inherent dignity and worth and has the following rights, along with corresponding responsibilities and obligations, in pursuing a healthy life.
Patient Rights
- ① Patients have the right to be treated with respect as individuals, based on their inherent dignity and worth as human beings.
- ② Patients have the right to receive equal medical care without discrimination on the basis of nationality, gender, age, religion, economic or social status, type of illness, or any other reason.
- ③ Patients have the right to choose their attending physician and medical institution in order to receive the best possible care.
- ④ Patients have the right to receive medical treatment from duly qualified medical professionals.
- ⑤ Patients and their guardians have the right to request information and records relating to the patient’s medical records.
- ⑥ Patients and their guardians have the right to receive an explanation of the patient’s condition and of the purpose, methods, content and outcome of treatment, and to choose a treatment method or to refuse treatment.
- ⑦ Patients and their guardians have the right to receive an explanation of the contents of any document related to medical care before signing it.
- ⑧ Patients and their guardians have the right to be informed of the details of the medical expenses incurred.
- ⑨ Patients have the right to the confidentiality of all information related to their illness, treatment, and personal privacy.
- ⑩ Patients and their guardians have the right to express their opinions or concerns regarding medical services or other matters within the clinic and to receive an appropriate response.
Responsibilities of the Patient
- ① Patients are responsible for providing medical staff, either directly or through a legal representative, with matters relevant to their care, such as current symptoms, past medical history, medication and other records.
- ② Patients are responsible for asking for clarification if there is anything they do not understand about their treatment.
- ③ Patients are responsible for participating in the treatment plan recommended by medical staff and for cooperating with their care.
- ④ Patients are responsible for the consequences that arise from not following the treatment plan.
- ⑤ Patients are responsible for respecting other patients and medical staff, and for taking good care of the clinic’s property.
- ⑥ Patients are responsible for fulfilling the financial obligations related to their treatment.
- ⑦ Patients are responsible for complying with the clinic’s rules and regulations.
