Who administers anesthesia for liposuction? Is it sedation or general anesthesia?

Pretty Body and Line Clinic

At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, the director who performs the surgery also manages the anesthesia directly. This is possible because the director is a board-certified anesthesiologist, and because the person who plans the anesthesia and the person who operates are the same, no information is lost along the way. Liposuction at Pretty Body and Line Clinic is performed under sedation.

How are sedation and general anesthesia different?

With sedation, you undergo surgery while medication lowers your consciousness and discomfort, and how breathing is managed depends on the depth of sedation. General anesthesia blocks consciousness and pain for the duration of surgery, and breathing is assisted as needed.

At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, liposuction is performed under sedation, and even when a small amount of fat is grafted to one or two spots on the face, it is done under sedation. Stem cell treatment is also performed with the fat harvested under sedation. Whether your body can tolerate anesthesia is first confirmed through blood tests before surgery.

Why does it matter who handles the anesthesia?

Anesthesia is not something that ends with a single injection; it means watching breathing and blood pressure throughout the surgery. With liposuction, the operating time and the anesthesia time both increase as the range widens, so it is a good idea to confirm in the consultation who will be watching your condition during surgery.

At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, the director who decides the areas and the range in the consultation is the one who enters the operating room, and as a board-certified anesthesiologist, also manages the anesthesia directly. After the surgery, the attending surgeon personally checks your condition through recovery and discharge.

What is checked before anesthesia?

At Pretty Body and Line Clinic, we first confirm through blood tests before surgery that your body can tolerate anesthesia. The standard fast before surgery is 8 hours, and you must not consume anything, including water, gum and candy.

Please be sure to tell us in the consultation about any medications you are taking, previous surgeries, chronic conditions, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This information changes both whether anesthesia is possible and the surgical plan.

How is anesthesia handled when liposuction and fat grafting are done together?

When liposuction and fat grafting are done at once, the total operating time and anesthesia time are calculated together for the suction sites and the grafting sites combined.
